Researchers were able to monitor brain segment usage in real-time by using digital imaging techniques. During the research, two groups were formed, The first is to play video games while the other is to take continuous adding of single digits for some time, known as the Kraepelin test. The first group showed brain activities and usage in parts concerned for vision and movement. The second group exhibited extensive brain usage for both left and right hemisphere, though the only segment needed for mathematical computation is the left hemisphere.

Additional research showed that numerical thinking is more beneficial than music. Reading was also observed to have brain usage for the frontal lobe.

Leaving the frontal lobe with little activities at the peak of brain development during puberty might cause the brain to be configured poorly as the person grows older. This is one of the greatest concerns from experts engaged in the study. Current findings left them with worries of having intellectually marginalized youth.
